Fool-proof ways to unblock household drainage
There are significant issues when a drain is blocked. First, there is a foul odour, and then the slow flow of water indicates that your house has flooded. Water can cause corrosion in your household items. It could cost you a lot of money to cover the cost of repairs if you wait until it is too late.
5 Methods To Unblock Your Drain
The quickest way to clear a blocked drain is to identify the root of the problem.
- Hairs- strands of hairs accumulate in the pipe and block the drain
- Roots- Tree roots are tough to handle and you might need professional assistance.
- Fats and greases- the fatty fluids stick themselves to the pipes and cause blockage
- Toiletries- pieces of toiletry do eventually hoard and obstruct your drainage pipes.
1. Baking soda and vinegar
If you have baking soda and vinegar in your home, you can make an effective drainage-unblocking formula to remove sewage waste, hair, or grime that has accumulated in your drainage pipe.
Mix one-third cup vinegar with one-third cup baking soda and pour it down your clogged drain as soon as it begins to bubble up. Allow it to settle for an hour or more before flushing it with boiling water.
2. Boiling Water
Boiling water is an excellent alternative to chemical cleaners for cleaning soapy residue and other shower clogs. Flushing out any debris that might be adhering to the pipes is helpful. Pouring boiling water down your drain once per week will help the proper functioning and drainage of your shower sewer system.
3. Wire Hanger
The hanger is one of the most traditional yet efficient ways to clear a drain. Bend the hanger to make it easier to insert it into the plughole. Leave the hook at the end to fish out the debris, and you’ve got a quick fix for your clogged drain.
Push the hanger into the pipe until you feel it bump up against the obstruction, then release it. Then, lightly distorting the hanger, you should be able to pull the obstruction up and away from the drain.
4. Soda Crystals or Detergent Powder
You might have soda crystals because they work well as a general cleaner. If so, pour boiling water down the drain followed by a cup of soda crystals. After that, add a mug of hot water and wait a few minutes. Finally, boil water in a kettle and pour it down the drain plug to cleanse the drain.
5. Zip-It or Plunger
There are a variety of drain-clearing products on the market, including plungers and drain snakes. The Zip-It is a popular product that works in the same way as the wire coat hanger method. Simply push it down the drain and remove it with the debris tethered. Continue until you believe your drain is clear.
